the “vince montana tribute” (louie vega and rick wilhite from detroit rework) is a heartfelt and masterful production in which 2021 grammy award nominee louie demonstrates his appreciation for the disco sounds that he grew up on in the iconic borough of bronx, nyc. the inspiration came about through an edit rick sent to louie. louie added some of his own editing touches, and the resulting track got big response whenever louie played it at his headlining sets. given louie’s longtime love and respect for vince montana, he decided to create an even bigger musical project. bringing in elements of life band members gene perez (bass), axel tosca (fender rhodes) and luisito quintero (congas), and then adding a piano line himself, louie was able to bring out the most authentic disco elements of this superlative groove but rework them so they are exactly in the pocket for today’s dancefloors worldwide.

dormancy is a mesh machine-like tweaks and dramatic themes that may have been inert until eddie hales songcraft forces it to stagger and sway with the synthetic rhythm. the title track begins with breathy synths and builds up its momentum with the bouncing beat. impulses is a dramatic dance floor track, fencing chords tangle with the rhythm that pulses constantly. bustling and elastic sound of variant 1 evokes the body to move along its excitable groove. the tensile theme of ju-6 never looses its cools with the stagger drums. jon hesters remix of dormancy keeps the overall theme but adding an old school approach as the track builds up with creamy synths juxtaposed with the clangy percussion.

for michigander s fifth release, brian kage delivers four solid dance-floor fillers, each infused with a unique blend of melodic detroit soul, intelligent acid and perfectly mixed percussion. each offering teleports the listener into a future where social distancing has finally abated and celebration can commence. lockdown starts the record off with undulating 303 bass notes that groove around in a circular arpeggiated formation until hypnotic 909 percussion breaks through with echoing claps and weaves together a tale of futuristic tension building. hold on pain ends features a stabbing analog synth-line that repeats a half-beat phrasing contrasted with slamming technical percussion, a heavy kick and a lush pad that is perfect for late nights in a warehouse. that woman from michigan contains gentle swinging upbeat percussion and deep soothing chords with samples of governor whitmer asking all michiganders to do their part and join together in solidarity. a subtly modulating acid line builds tension into a perfectly resonating crescendo. f.u covid19 - an ominous swelling pad rips across the dystopian horizon as swinging rimshots build around a deep pulsing kick and a dirty mono synth swirl. echoing vocal samples punctuate this acidic frenzy until the tension falls away giving dancers an opportunity to catch their breath before the next round of infectious rhythmic groove forces the hypnotic spell to intensify.
